ffffffffffffffffffffffffff
and we are the opening act
there is another way
We tend to think of justice and mercy as opposites, but this couldn't be further from the case:
The opposite of justice is not mercy.
The opposite of justice is injustice.
Let us follow the God of justice and mercy who stands opposed to the injustices we inflict on each other.
faith hope and love
Each fresh failure makes the next one easier, and easier, and easier, till failing seems inevitable so why bother trying?
In this place where it seems all my hopes and loves end in disappointment, I have found the loneliness, helplessness and hopelessness that has driven others to drastic, tragic measures.
But the drastic and the tragic can't save me.
So grace, like faith, comes to me in baby steps
A certainty in the face of uncertainty that,
though life is hard and though life is unfair
there is another way
And for now, while I wait for reality
All things made new again, all things made GOOD again
I will look around at the pieces of my broken heart
And revel in newfound empty spaces between my soul and the sky
sometimes you pour your whole heart out
invest it in the hope of change and growth
and in the end people just pass by and spit on it
both headaches and heartaches
lead to disorientation
I guess Asian people are too quiet
That's the reason human trafficking still exists, right?
I mean look at white people
How they stood together and spoke up
Freeing slaves for even worse conditions as sharecroppers
Gave them paper freedom but no right to freedom
Freedom under the law but no protection from the law
Gave them life under the lynchings, nightsticks and church burnings of their freedom
Played with Integrating schools while segregating communities
Gave them the vote but kept them from the polls
Gave them equal jobs with unequal pay
But at least human trafficking is over with
In all of Europe, all of North America
Because white people spoke up!
(well, not really, but you get the point)
I guess Asian people are too quiet
I guess Asian people are too quiet
That's why human trafficking still exists, in Asia at least?
I mean once you get past
European colonialism
American expansionism
Surely Asians have no one to blame but themselves
The poverty that allows trafficking
Can't be the result of European exploitation
Of America's reckless wars
Because the West pulled out of Asia a long time ago
Right? Am I right?
If you forget that the exchange rate for the American dollar in Asia has been
Sweatshops and sex tourism
Pollution and police states
Landfills and land mines
Greed and genocide
Drugs and dictatorships
Conquest and child labor
Atomic bombs and Agent Orange
And if you forget that American companies outsource misery to the third world
Saving enough money to buy what joy is left to the oppressed
Leaving desperate families and communities
At the mercy of the first person to offer them the opportunity
That the West will never offer at a good rate
And if you forget
That the only atomic weapons used on human beings were dropped on Japan
That America would rebuild Japan in its own image
That the Philippines had just fought off Spanish rule
Only to have Americans gun down their freedom
That all of southeast Asia still bears the scars of American wars
That only Thailand can claim to never have been occupied by foreigners
Then it's clear as day
Who's to blame:
I guess Asian people are too quiet.
we think love is the chemical reaction
of chocolate mixed with roses
and I am here to tell you
there is another way
we spend all our time making money
and all our money wasting time
and I am here to tell you
there is another way
we outsource our suffering to the poor
burn out their futures for overpriced shoes
and I am here to tell you
there is another way
we need our copious personal space
to hate our neighbors as we hate ourselves
and I am here to tell you
there is another way
